Abstract
The NASA Langley Research Center is conducting a feasibility study to assess the capability of a Forward Looking Interferometer (FLI) to detect and measure hazards to aircraft. The FLI concept is an aircraft-mounted spectrometer capable of measuring atmospheric conditions (such as turbulence, wake vortices, and others) ahead of the aircraft for the purpose of detecting hazards to the aircraft or determining other information relative to flight deck requirements. This manuscript will focus on lee wave turbulence and wake vortex investigations that stem from an earlier feasibility study.
