Abstract
The stress-strain responses of three periodic lattice designs were investigated when subjected to uniaxial compression loading under strain rates ranging between 0.001 sec-1 to 0.010 sec-1. The compression specimens were additively manufactured out of Inconel 718 using a common cell size and surface thickness. This resulted in a relative density range of 22% to 40%, dependent on the lattice design. Over this range of strain rates the mechanical responses of these structures were insensitive to the applied strain rate. It was found that the modulus of elasticity, yield strength, plateau stress, and absorbed energy showed little variation throughout the quasi-static range, and was considered within normal response tolerances accounting for variation in manufacture.
